Pam Woodhouse
Just to let you know (and to add to your impressive success rate) I did get the required 'C' in the GCSE maths paper. I was very surprised and thrilled. Thank you for getting me on the right track and giving me the confidence to give it a go. I have almost finished my teaching assistant course with the Open University (I'm really enjoying it and doing very well at present). However, without the maths I would probably not even be considered for employment at school, so thank you once again.
Mrs Ramzan from St Albans
' We wanted a home-based support for Maths for a fourteen year old. All work was marked on time and we felt that Exam Tuition offered an old-fashioned 'service' rather than just a big machine.'
Amy Cornelius from Glasgow
I've just received my results from the iGCSE physics exams that I sat in January and I'm delighted to say that I passed and achieved an A grade! Thank you so much for your support and assistance whilst I was studying for the qualification. I think you offer a great service for students.
Robert & Megan Jones
I write on behalf of Robert who is currently away skiing with army cadets until 12th March.  He has asked me to write to you. He is very happy and relieved to have achieved a Grade C in the English that he sat on 25th January, with marks of 64/100 (and I am very pleased too). May we take this opportunity to thank you for your tutoring, marking, help, support and guidance since October.  The combined efforts have resulted in him achieving this grade. The key things where I feel you have excelled are:
  • those initial 2 essays you asked Robert to write, you picked up on his needs very quickly.
  • Asking him to read the Laurie Lee book, 'As I walked out one midsummers morning' was so so so appropriate to Robert's learning need.  To ask him to read that book was a huge task for Robert to do, but the examples of description and the way the reader was drawn in to something that Robert had to read and experience to try and then create this within his own writing.  Robert's Dad is weak on English, but even he read a section of that book and also commented in the same way.  Excellent choice, a real plus point.
  • That initial exercise about adjectives that asked Robert to extend a short sentence into a descriptive paragraph. Again, this was an excellent task and exactly what Robert needed to practice.
  • I can't thank you enough for the 'How to write an essay' document.  Things that seem so straightforward and logical but things I had never been shown before.  We constantly used the Spider drawing, adding legs and then fingers.
  • Finally, what you write about on you website is all correct.  From that initial conversation that I had with you to discuss Robert's circumstance through to the end has shown you offering good quality structured tuition (which we feel was individual and not mass produced), the speed of your marking and response to questions has all been exactly what you offered and in return for Robert's commitment to hard work the final goal has been achieved.
Thank you Jonathan, we are pleased we found your website.

Home Study GCSE Courses

We are a group of professional teachers and tutors, established in 1985 providing high quality home study courses in the GCSE core subjects: Maths, English Language, English Literature and the Sciences: Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

By specialising in just the most important GCSE subjects, we can offer the highest quality support including GCSE Online Courses.

Our approach to online distance learning is unique in that we treat each student differently, according to their educational needs.

We always begin by giving you a written Assessment; this is so that we can judge your initial ability level and set you off on a course which is right for you. This is a vital step, but we are the only course-provider to do it!

Each course consists of written Assignments which you send in for marking; they are marked by your tutor and detailed advice provided. You go at your own pace. With us you’ll do between three and four times as much marked work as you would with our leading competitor.

We employ no admin staff: all fees go to the tutors.

IT WORKS! Our pass rate is 92%.

Should you have any questions, please call us on 0800 096 0024.

How is the exam taken? You sit the examination itself at a centre local to you: see the Links page for lists of centres.

When are the exams? They are in January or June each year.

How is the work submitted? You can send your written Assignments by email or post – it’s up to you. Your tutor will mark & return them within 24 hours, giving you full advice and any necessary follow-up work to help you resolve difficult issues and fill the gaps in your knowledge.

How many Assignments are there? There are between 25 and 35 Assignments depending on the subject.

When do the Courses start? Students can begin on any day of the year.

Is it possible to do more than one subject at a time? Yes.

How many hours a week of study is required? It depends on your ability, but five hours a week for one subject is normal.

Who marks the Assignments? You will have the same tutor throughout the Course who will mark your work. You can contact them at any time- to ask for additional help - by phone or email.

Is it possible to re-take if unsuccessful? Yes, you can continue with us for no extra charge.

Which exam board is it? The GCSEs are awarded by Edexcel, the largest exam board in the UK.

Why are the syllabuses iGCSE, not just GCSEs? The iGCSE version is often taken at private schools and is ideal for independent candidates because the exam centres prefer them. The ‘normal’ GCSE is usually just for teenagers in schools.
All universites and colleges accept iGCSE (this has been checked with the Department for Education).

Are textbooks required? There will be a textbook required (except for English Language) but you will also be taught by online videos (and in Maths, the Course includes a free DVD). The Assignments are carefully designed to lead you from easy topics into more difficult ones.

What are the new GCSE grades? They now go from 9 (equal to A*) down to 1. Grade 4 and above is a pass; just like the old C grade.

How does the guarantee work? If you fail to achieve at least a 4 grade, we shall refund your fees provided that you’ve reported your progess every two weeks and you have studied for at least three months.

Are Past Papers included? Yes. You will do up to eight Past Papers after completing the Assignments. They will be marked by your tutor.

Which English is better, Language or Literature? Almost all students only require English Language. This is one you will need for university, college courses or any career.

Are there any age limits? No.

Is it possible to do ‘Higher level’? The English, Biology, Chemistry & Physics syllabuses are just one level (ie no Higher or Foundation), so there’s no choice necessary. In Maths you can do Foundation or Higher, as you wish.

What are the fees? Each GCSE subject costs £275, or £98 deposit followed by four monthly instalments of £48.
